Mary-Claire Buell Ph.D.
Mary-Claire Buell has been working at the intersect of knowledge systems for the past several years and has developed relationships with a number of Indigenous Nations within Ontario and the Great Lakes Basin. Her successes in her recent PhD work in Lake Huron led her to the creation of the company Collective Environmental that facilitates cross-cultural environmental research and planning to support Indigenous communities, their rights and self-determination. This collective approaches projects by employing two-eyed seeing methodology bringing together scientific tools, community knowledge, and community experts to create environmental solutions that are culturally appropriate and sustainable. She has proven skills in the ethical development and implementation of projects bringing together multiple knowledge systems, building relationships and networks to support such projects. Her experiences and expertise in this field have led her to become contract faculty at Trent University for the Chanie Wenjack School of Indigenous Studies, Indigenous Environmental Studies and Sciences program teaching Indigenous Environmental Research Ethics and Protocols. She has worked as an instructor for the Building Environmental Aboriginal Human Resources Program as well as an instructor and program developer for the Trent Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge and Science Program. She holds an MSc from Trent University and an Honours BSc in environmental biology from the University of Guelph. 
James Wilkes, PhD candidate James is a cultural ecologist and educator who is dedicated to social and environmental justice, Indigenous and Canadian rights, land protection and biodiversity, as well as decolonization, re-humanization and knowledge revitalization. James honours his mixed Scottish and Hungarian ancestry, and he has been fortunate to live and work in several remote communities, traveling extensively throughout the Americas, Europe and East Asia. His educational and experiential background is rooted in diverse understandings of the environment, coupled with interests in revolution and resurgence, Indigenous law, spirituality, sciences and knowledge system interaction. James’s courses highlight the need for improved environmental policy that: respects the relationships, responsibilities and knowledges of Indigenous peoples; recognizes the rights, laws and autonomy of Indigenous communities; and involves Indigenous people in fair, open and meaningful ways. James works to support the continuation of ecological and cultural diversity through action, teaching and research, including land use studies and map biographies.

Stephen McGovarin MSc
Stephen's experience in working with First Nations in Ontario is focused around contaminants in the aquatic environment. He has led consultation work with several First Nations and First Nation led organizations and has worked on developing and strengthening community-based environmental monitoring programs. Stephen has extensive experience in the fisheries sector. His experience in fisheries has ranged from environmental impact assessments, monitoring contaminants, population surveys, spawning habitat rehabilitation, species diversity and abundance. Stephen holds an Honours BSc in Indigenous Environmental Science from Trent University. 
Ruth Duncan
Ruth Duncan is Anishinaabe Qwe from The Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, part of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation located on the Bruce Peninsula. Ruth is a first year undergrad student at Trent University, pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science program for Indigenous Environental Sciences. Ruth Duncan is an intren for Environmental Collective and is working on the Bima'azh project using two eyed seeing and smart technology to conduct research that is rooted in community knowledge. Ruth cares deeply about implementing two-eyed seeing into research and bringing justice to both Indigenous and environmental issues. 
Marsha Serville-Tertullien Ph.D.
Marsha has a background in Environmental Science and Natural Resource Management and has experience with environmental education, water monitoring and analysis, and mixed-methods research. She has worked on many interdisciplinary and cross-cultural environmental projects in the Caribbean and Canada. Her recent Ph.D. research involved working closely with partner Indigenous and rural communities in Canada and the Caribbean to assess risks to sources of drinking water. She is particularly passionate about working with communities, through respectful relationships, to address water-related and other environmental issues. Her experience with environmental education and capacity building initiatives has made her aware of the importance of bringing together various knowledge systems to address both simple and complex environmental issues. |
